Best Dissertation Thesis in the Field of Catalysis 2025-2027

The Catalysis Expert Group of the Czech Chemical Society announces
the 1st competition for the best dissertation in the field of catalysis.

The organizer and promoter of the competition
The promoter and organizer of the competition is the expert group Katalýza at the Czech Chemical Society, Novotného lávka 200/5, 110 00 Prague, Staré Město, ID No.: 00444715.

Aim of the competition
The aim of the competition is to award the authors of the best dissertations focusing on all forms of catalysis (heterogeneous, homogeneous and enzymatic catalysis and photocatalysis) defended in the period from August 1, 2025 to March 31, 2027.

Competition announcement: April 1, 2025
The application for the competition must be sent no later than March 31, 2027 (deadline for delivery).

The announcement of the results, awarding of prizes and presentation of the award-winning theses by their authors will take place at the Symposium on Catalysis, organized by the J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry in November 2027 (the exact date will be confirmed during the competition).
The winner(s) will be financially rewarded.

Conditions of participation
The competition is open to any student/graduate of a Czech or Slovak university (hereinafter referred to as the participant) who completes the application form and fulfils the qualification conditions listed below in this paragraph.

  • elaboration of the dissertation to be submitted in English;
  • attaching the following attachments to the application form: a statement of the dissertation supervisor on a maximum of 1 A4 page (focused on the evaluation of the student and the course of his/her studies), a professional CV of the dissertation thesis author.

 General conditions

  • The participant enters the competition by completing and submitting the application form with the required attachments by the deadline. The application form is available for download on the website www.katalyza.cz/en.
  • Applications with attachments should be sent to the following email address: lucie.obalova@vsb.cz, please indicate BEST DISSERTATION THESIS COMPETITION in the subject line.
  • Incomplete or incorrectly completed applications will be rejected.
  • In the application form, the participant agrees that the organiser is entitled to process the personal data provided by the participant in the application form for the purposes of organising and evaluating the competition, in accordance with Act No. 101/2000 Coll., on the protection of personal data, as amended. Without consent, the entry cannot be included in the competition.
  • The awarded works will be archived for the purposes of the competition with the chairman of the Catalysis expert group. The organizer undertakes that the dissertations will not be made available to third parties, except to the evaluation committee.
  • The organizer of the competition reserves the right not to award prizes.
  • The organiser reserves the right to amend these rules during the course of the competition. Any changes will be posted on the Catalysis Specialist Group website and will be communicated simultaneously to those participants already registered on the date of publication of the changes.
